This etching by Zao Wou-Ki is the fifth plate from the Canto Pisan portfolio, created in 1972 and published by Pierre Belfond in Paris. It was printed in colors using aquatint on Arches paper, with three copper plates, and is signed and inscribed H.C. in pencil by the artist. The work illustrates The Pisan Cantos, a poetic series written by Ezra Pound during his incarceration by Italian partisans after World War II. The edition includes 180 impressions on Arches paper, an additional 80 on Japon nacré paper, and a few copies out of commerce. It was printed by Atelier Bellini in Paris and is presented framed.Reference: Ågerup 222.
