[Fire Island]: N/A, 1960. Near Fine. Two albums, both filled to completion, chronicling a drag queen house party at Fire Island during the late 1960s. Quarto "Easy-Mount" photo album, spiral bound in faux leather with embossed front board, containing 7 double-card leaves protected by plastic covers. Quarto "Scrap Book," cord bound in green paper-covered boards, containing 14 card leaves. Overall Near Fine with light rubbing to covers, light toning to scrap book sheets, and light foxing to photo album sheets with yellowing and some chipping to plastic.

A lively collection of snapshots from a Fourth of July house party, likely held circa 1967-68. The photo album uses a postcard and 20 chromogenic snapshots from the two-week party to create a humorous narrative of "Aggie's" unexpected arrival, announced via sympathetic letter from her "sisters" Sarra and Marsha. Aggie's plan to parachute in with a trunk full of goodies dismays her friends, one of whom attempts to misdirect her to the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kwajalein Island instead. The album ends with Aggie declaring defiantly: "I'm still coming on July 3rd - so there!!!"

The scrap book is titled "A collection of America's relics" and features 34 more photographs from the party. Lovingly decorated with paint and construction paper, the book is a testament to a glorious summer holiday in a gay mecca. Men of all ages can be seen sunning themselves, dressing up, dressing down, and playing around in their rented vacation home. Booking a summer house is a longstanding tradition at Fire Island, which has been home to gay enclaves since the 1950s. The albums celebrate a joyous period of freedom at a time when it was still illegal for two men to dance together.
