Colt's Story in Miniature 1836 to 1862

  • Cloth. Gilt and blindstamped. Clasp
  • 1960
1960. First Edition. Cloth. Gilt and blindstamped. Clasp. Near Fine. With fourteen miniature pewter models of Colt guns, each with a shaped resting well on the right side when one opens the cover. On the verso of the front cover is a fourteen page pamphlet on the facing verso. N.d., circa 1960. The octavo-sized blue cloth album binding measures 22 by 17 cm. It resembles albums used by coin collectors. The pamphlet, its rear cover pasted onto the board underneath, is 20 by 15 cm. Its front cover reprints several nineteenth century bits and pieces from actual Colt promotions. Its overall appearance almost passes for genuine antique. The brochure otherwise almost looks as if it the contents were typed ob an ordinary typewriter and then mimeographed. No publisher or place of publishing are given. The brochure discusses each of the fourteen guns replicated. The longest of these miniatures is about 9 cm in length; the shortest, a little more than 4 cm in length. No institutional records on OCLC First Search, and no listings on at least biblio commerce websites. Our copy is complete. The album has some wear -- minor dings along the edge, and some incidental soiling -- with the cloth and metal snap piece used to clasp the album closed now gone. The pamphlet is clean. And the mini-guns are in perfect shape. We will add that these guns have no moving parts. They are entirely for show.
