By Cummings, E. E.
New York: Covici, Friede, 1931. First Edition. Fine. First edition. Number 30 of a limited 391 copies signed on the title page by E. E. Cummings in green watercolor. 119 pp with 99 black and white plates of his art in charcoal, ink, oil, pencil, and watercolor - hence the acronymic title. Bound in publisher's rough burlap over boards with upper board stamped in silver; lacking the scarce glassine dust jacket; housed in a rough card cover slipcase, perhaps original but not mentioned by Firmage. Fine, the nicest copy of this fragile production we have ever handled, with light thumbing.

A truly superlative copy of the writer and artist's monograph highlighting his artistic passion through a series of expressionist portraits of friends and figures like Charlie Chaplin, nudes, landscapes, and still lifes. Cummings always considered himself equally a painter and a poet, but his literary fame often overshadowed his visual art. A defining monograph that launched the genre of the "art book"; uncommon in such excellent condition. Firmage A10.
