By [Japanese American Internment]: [442nd Regimental Combat Team]
San Francisco: The Presidio Army Museum, 1981. Very good plus.. Photographically-illustrated poster, 16 x 21 inches, printed in red and light blue. Very minor wear. A rare poster issued to promote "the first major exhibit on the history of the Japanese American soldier in World War II." The members of the 100th Infantry Battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team fought with distinction in Europe, eventually receiving more than 18,000 service decorations, including over 9,000 Purple Hearts. These brave soldiers committed themselves to fighting for a country that was, at the time, imprisoning their own families and, in most cases, themselves. The 442nd Regiment was comprised of thousands of American citizens of Japanese descent who actually left internment camps to join the United States Army. The exhibition advertised here was held at San Francisco's Presidio Army Museum over the course of a calendar year beginning on March 7, 1981. According to the text of the poster, the exhibit included an "amazingly realistic diorama of the Battle of Bruyeres" which "fell to the 442nd after three grueling days of assault," a slide show, and a documentary film, as well as "a collection of photographs, uniforms, standards, weapons" and other artifacts from their wartime service. A large portion of the poster is comprised of a photograph of a line of Japanese-American soldiers in Europe marching past the camera.

Not in OCLC, which records institutional records for a similarly-titled twenty-two-page booklet published for the exhibition, and a two-page flyer, but not this poster.
