Antique Miniature Painting of a Late 18th-Early 19th Century Gentleman

Painting. Very Good +. A late 18th-early 19th century American miniature hand-painted portrait --in gouache-- of a "gentleman". (The family from whom the painting came believed it may have been painted by the American still-life painter Raphaelle Peale {1774-1825} but there was nothing accompanying the portrait to support this). The painting is clean and bright and presents very well. In a handsome period wooden frame, with aged gilt-bordering designed to highlight the painting. 5" wide x 6" tall in its frame, which has been re-backed in recent years and from which we have not removed the portrait. A nice piece of original Americana.
