[Richmond]: Confederate States of America War Department, 1864. Very Good binding. 3 3/4” x 6 1/8”. Printed Confederate pass, dated in pen July 25, 1864, and issued to one “Master C. W. Montague” granting permission to visit Petersburg, and who swears on the verso printed “that I will bear true faith and yield obedience to the Confederate States of America and that I will serve there honestly and faithfully against their enemies.” It is signed by I. H. Harrington, who was provost marshal of Richmond during the Civil War. C. W. Montague must have been a young man, as he is named as “Master C. M. Montague”~~Some loss to one corner and a small spot of loss in the margins, neither affect the text. Very Good binding.
