Baudens' medical history of the French army in the Crimean War. An invaluable first hand account of the results of modern warfare from wounds, surgery, management and including reports from naval installations and secondary camps. The author was an experienced military physician having spent a long period with French troops in Algeria where he established a teaching hospital. In 1855 he was appointed Medical Inspector for the army in Corsica, Italy and the Crimea. This book is based on his experiences. He died in 1858. Published during the Civil War Baudens' book was clearly intended for the instruction of US Army medical staff. Uncommon in trade; escaping notice or mention in Gillett's comprehensive history.
