The Alabama Land & Development Company, based in Mobile, managed public land grants to the Mobile & Ohio Railroad, to induce settlement along the Railroad's route. The Company's pamphlet demonstrates the favorable terms of purchase, the topography, climate, rainfall, healthy environment, fruits and other agricultural products, crops, grasses, live stock, "valuable woods," "important cities and towns" in Mississippi and Alabama.
