Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, 1985 First edition, first printing. Signed and inscribed by Mantle on the title page. Publisher's black cloth-backed red paper-covered boards, with titles in silver foil to spine; in its original white dust jacket, with R. B. Boris' close-up photograph of Mantle's jersey to front panel, lettered in red and black. Very slight lean to spine, else fine book; near fine unclipped dust jacket, with a few small closed tears to head of spine and light toning to extremities. Overall, a handsome copy of the great Mickey Mantle's memoir. Mickey Mantle played his entire eighteen-year career with the New York Yankees, alongside other legendary players like Yogi Berra, Joe DiMaggio, and Whitey Ford. Plagued by injuries throughout much of his career, Mantle nevertheless became an all-time great, winning three MVP awards (1956, 1957, 1962) and the Triple Crown in 1956. He also helped power the Yankees to seven World Series titles. Mantle was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1974 and was selected for the prestigious MLB All-Century Team in 1999. His memoir, The Mick, "abounds with those memories of when Mantle was the toast of the town. More than that, though, it movingly recounts the private events of his remarkably public life; from his humble beginnings, to his personal triumphs in and out of baseball, to the tragedy that haunts four generations of his family." . Signed. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Dust Jacket Included.
