LATE 18TH EARLY 19TH CENTURY "RURAL FELICITY; or LOVE IN A CHASE" HAND-COLORED SATIRICAL ENGRAVINGS (lot of 5)
- 1790 - 1810
1790 - 1810. A collection of five hand-colored copper engravings, German-language continental reissues after British satirical originals, circa 1790-1810. Centered on the celebrated composition "Rural Felicity; or Love in a Chase", the scenes depict rustic courtship and playful erotic satire, emblematic of late Georgian popular print culture. Produced for private enjoyment, such prints reflect the moralizing, yet bawdy humor associated with British caricature of the period. Each sheet measures approximately 9.5 × 12.5 inches.
In Good condition. Moderate age toning throughout with scattered foxing, stains, and surface soiling. Soft creases, edge wear, and occasional small edge tears and marginal losses are present. The engraved images remain intact and legible, with hand-coloring generally well preserved. Shelved Rockville Room E. 1407934. Special Collections - Upstairs.
