Berlin-Charlottenburg: Ernst Pollak Verlag, 1931. First edition. Hardcover. Very good condition. Large Quarto. xvi, 272pp. Original blue pebbled cloth with gilt lettering on cover, gilt lettering and ruling on red label of spine. Cream endpapers. Compilation of modern apartment buildings and settlements to demonstrate the work of contemporary architects. The book is devided into three chapters: low rise, medium rise and high rise buildings.

"The observant viewer of contemporary architectural development will notice, particularly in these days, that a new phase of architectural development is in the making; "the new" comes to light in particular in that the buzzwords of the past years, e.g. "New Objectivity," "pure functionalism," or even the by now half way recanted "living machine" appear in the discussion of the "New Architecture" more and more without quotation marks while formal aesthetic questions come to the fore."

Profusely illustrated with 415 b/w reproductions of photographs of new architecture, architectural plans and drawings, and measured drawings throughout. Among the architects represented in this volume are Bruno Ahrends, Heinrich de Fries, Walter Gropius, Josef Havlicek, Ernst May, Erich Mendelsohn, J. J. P. Oud, Hans Poelzig, Hans Scharoun, Bruno Taut and many others. Lists all architects in table of content. Text in German. Very light wear along edges of binding.
