Printed poster advertising upcoming puppet and marionette performances at the Bookshop for Boys and Girls in Boston, run by the Women's Educational and Industrial Union. Includes beloved characters of the time (Aladdin, Little Black Sambo, Sally Gabble, etc.) and includes an interactive aspect to one of the performances: "Only the famous puppet Pinocchio is debarred [from the performance]. Will he slip past the guards and get his NOSE into things? TRAP set at every entrance".

The Women's Educational and Industrial Union was founded in 1877 by English physician Dr. Harriet Clisby (1830-1931) in response to a sudden influx of immigrants to Boston. The Union's goal was to help women and mothers support themselves and their families, offering training through programs and businesses including the Bookshop for Boys and Girls.
