Decorative brown cloth covered boards with gilt lettering and black rules and floral design to front. Gilt title band , black lettering , orange designs and rules to the spine. Tissue guarded frontispiece, tissue guarded photogravure of Alcott at page 140, and three other illustrations. Green floral end papers. Eight pages of publisher ads to the rear. Very Good, modest rubbing to tips and spine ends. Contemporary prior owner bookplate to front paste down and prior owner name and date in pencil Dec . 20,(18)99 to first free end. A few scattered top page edges with small chips and closed tears. Ednah Dow Cheney, suffragist, writer, reformer and philanthropist, was a trusted confidant of Alcott's. This book was published posthumously after several revisions late in Alcott's life. .
