Composer Jerome Kern's library was sold by Mitchell Kennerley's Anderson Galleries in eight evening sessions in January 1929 and realized a total of $1,729,462.50.

Danish-born Jean Hersholt (1886-1956) was a celebrated actor and book collector. He translated many of the stories and fables of Hans Christian Andersen into English , The Complete Andersen was published by the Limited Editions Club in 1949; he donated his Andersen collection to the Library of Congress.
