Overall, a pleasing copy of this masterpiece of psychological horror. The Shining tells the story of Jack Torrance, a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic, who relocates with his wife, Wendy, and five-year-old son, Danny, to the enormous Overlook Hotel in the Colorado mountains after accepting a job as the hotel's caretaker for the winter offseason. The hotel begins to exert a supernatural influence on Jack, and he descends into madness, terrorizing Wendy and Danny. Meanwhile, Danny has a psychic gift called "the shining," which allows him to glimpse the true, horrific nature of the hotel. The book was King's third published novel, and his first bestseller. In 1980, it was adapted by Stanley Kubrick into what is generally considered one of the greatest horror films of all time, starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, and Danny Lloyd. . First Edition.
