First edition of Petty's collected economic writings. Two octavo volumes (8 1/4 x 5 5/8 inches; 207 x 144 mm). With a frontispieces for each volume. Volume II with two frontispieces. This set includes "A Treatise of Taxes", "Political Arithmetic", "Verbum Sapienti", and "The Political Anatomy of Ireland", alongside John Graunt's "Observations upon the Bills of Mortality" among others.
Publisher's quarter black cloth over blue cloth boards. Spines ruled and lettered in gilt. Previous owner's small ink signature on front free endpaper of each volume. Some minor rubbing to boards and spine extremities. Endpapers with some offsetting. Overall a very good set.

He was the valued friend of Pepys and Evelyn, and author of various treatises on taxes, currency, economy and government, including the first book on vital statistics, a study of London." (Howell)
