Spine a bit rolled, with minor warping to the rear board. Backstrip subtly sunned; gilt on backstrip dulled. Head of boards also mildly sunned. Bookseller's ticket on rear pastedown. Dust jacket heavily sunned at spine and folds; these areas are a bit brittle. Edges are chipped with a few scattered, moderate losses. Mild dampstaining to spine, along with a small cracks to the paper (these have been backed with tape). Translated by Alice Raphael. Introduction by Mark Van Doren. Illustrated by Lynd Ward with six full-page wood engravings reproduced by electrotypes and printed in black.
