平民千字帖 = Ping Min Qian Zi Tie = Copy book for foundation characters ... Thirteenth edition

  • Shanghai: Associated Press of China, 1933
Shanghai: Associated Press of China, 1933. 7½" x 5¼", pp. [30]; original self-wrappers with an early rebacking and a small tape repair to the upper cover; text toned; a good copy. With the ownership signature on the back wrapper of "Hildebrand." A number of the Chinese characters, which are assembled on the page in a grid pattern, are annotated in pencil and/or ink with either phonetic and/or English equivalents, almost certainly by Beatrice and/or Thelma Hildebrand. Beatrice and Thelma Hildebrand, twin sisters, born February 10, 1904, were Assemblies of God appointed missionaries to Southwest China in 1936. They first ministered in Kunming, then moved to Luling, where they established a church. Because of the outbreak of war, they were evacuated in 1950 and returned stateside. Beatrice died in 1982 and Thelma in 1988. OCLC locates a 1926 edition in Germany, and one copy of this edition at the National Library of China in Beijing.
