Original Promotional Flyer For Nirvana At City Gardens

  • Trenton, NJ: City Gardens, 1991
Trenton, NJ: City Gardens, 1991. Near fine.. Original flyer featuring one of Nirvana's earliest post-NEVERMIND gigs, at Trenton's notorious City Gardens. The generation-defining NEVERMIND was released on September 24, 1991. While "Smells Like Teen Spirit" had been released to radio and as a single weeks before, the song didn't debut on MTV until two days after this show, and it would be months before the song (and NEVERMIND) took off. So the band that rolled into Trenton's infamous s*!?-hole punk club three days later was still far from famous. Former Sub-Pop label mates Das Damen opened; Kurt Cobain, Chris Novoselic, and Dave Grohl played a tight 51-minute set (video of which is widely available online) to the small, typically raucous CG crowd. This was only Nirvana's seventh show of the Nevermind tour, and just the third since the album's release. Produced by City Gardens (likely for distribution at the club), the flyer also lists upcoming shows from The Ramones, The Mighty Lemon Drops, Hoodoo Gurus, Bad Brains, Gwar, and others. An exceptionally early and ephemeral promotional flyer for this epochal tour. 11'' x 8.5''. Original xerographically reproduced black-and-white broadside flyer printed recto and verso. Old folds (quarters), some rubbing here and there. Else bright and clean.
