Don't Forget The Hi-Jinks Frolic . . . [Drop title]
- [Los Angeles]: N.P., 1927
[Los Angeles]: N.P., 1927. Very good +. 8¾” x 5 ”. Single sheet broadside. Very good plus: one tiny pinhole, else fresh, with contemporary amendment to admission price in pencil.
This is an unrecorded handbill for a “frolic” that took place in Los Angeles' historic Central Avenue district, once considered the “Harlem of the West.”
We found references to this event in the African American California Eagle newspaper which mentioned that “A number of charming and beautiful Los Angeles coeds are busily rushing around . . . making plans and preparing for the much talked about Hi-Jinks' Frolic.” The paper assured that “many out-oftown visitors have motored to our fair city to attend this affair” and promised “pretty ladies and music that you can't resist.”
This joyful flyer shows a penciled correction to the admission price (down from 50 cents to a bargain 35), advertises “Music by the Famous Masked Mystery Orchestra” and invites attendees to “Come Masked or Unmasked.” It reads,“Oh, Boy! It Will Be Great!” and we believe it likely was.
We locate no evidence of this handbill in OCLC or online.
