Adeline Virginia Stephen, later Virginia Woolf after her marriage to Leonard Woolf, was born January 25, 1882 to an affluent family in South Kensington London. She began writing professionally in 1900 and published her first novel in 1915. Woolf's writings would become highly popularized in the 1970's during the rise of Second-Wave feminism.
