[Xeroxed Reproduction] Prolegomena to a Study of the Universe [Inscribed and Signed, maybe to Lloyd Kahn?]
- SIGNED
- N.p.: s.i., 1977
N.p.: s.i., 1977. Very Good -. [Berkeley, CA]: [Poltroon Press], 1977. Seven xeroxed leaves folded into [28]pp. booklet side stapled at top left-hand corner. Wrappers toned and starting to chip along fold; Good to Very Good. Upper panel inscribed and signed, "Mr Kahn - The pages weren't numbered in the original. I've written in places in this copy where the Xerox failed & have numbered the pages. Philip Whalen / 9:vi:77."
A crude and out-of-sequence xeroxed reproduction of Whalen's work "Prolegomena to a Study of the Universe," published by the Poltroon Press in 1976. Whalen has helpfully added in manuscript part of the text that got cut off by the xerox machine, the lines amounting to something pretty close to verse:
"pissing a stream
noticing him
and death
Kierkegaardian."
(Just not very good verse.)
Though difficult to establish the Mr. Kahn from the inscription, it is tempting to point to Lloyd Kahn, another stalwart of the Bay Area and the publisher of the Whole Earth Catalogue and editor-in-chief of Shelter Publications.
