In a period when colored shirts were used to signify various political movements (Blackshirts, Brownshirts, the American fascist Silvershirts, etc), the Greenshirts marked an effort to oppose all violent ideologies. The Green International was affiliated with the Baha'i faith and worked with a number of pacifist organizations.
