With just a minimum of scattered foxing and toning, the plates very clean and bright. Early owner's signature at top of title page. Three-inch tear to interior edge of large folding map. Overall, a neat, fine copy.
First edition, Senate issue. 30th Congress, 1st Session, Executive Document No. 7. With the large folding map (approximately 30 x 72 inches) not usually issued with the House issues. Emory's report is a superb study of the lands newly wrested from the Mexican government. "...a major contribution to the geographical knowledge of North America. His map... was the first accurate depiction of that vast area, and is still regarded as one of the landmarks of American cartography. The report includes sections on the plants and animals, as well as on the geology and the prehistoric town sites and other archaeological remains..." (Wagner-Camp).
