Voyage Round the World recounts Commodore George Anson's circumnavigation of the world between 1740-1744. At the time, Britain was at war with Spain. Anson's mission was to disrupt Spanish trading routes in the Pacific, but his fleet was nearly destroyed during the voyage around Cape Horn. After repairing his fleet and procuring new crew members, he was successful in capturing a Spanish Galleon near Manila. There was a tremendous loss of life on the voyage, with only 188 of the original 1,854 surviving the journey. (Sabin 1625).
