New York: E.P. Dutton, 1980. First Edition. 242pp. Octavo [21.5 cm] 1/2 black cloth over tan boards with the title gilt stamped on the backstrip. Near fine/Near fine. Signed by Abbey on the front free endsheet. This is Abbey's only work of science fiction, that takes place in the near future after the destruction of the government and economy, where a small group of people (including Jack Burns!) fight against a would-be authoritarian who is trying to establish a Phoenix based dictatorship. Edward Abbey (1927-1989) was a celebrated author, essayist, conservationist, noted pain-in-the-ass, and in many ways the father (or at the very least, uncle) of the modern environmental movements.
