THE PATCHWORK GIRL OF OZ

  • Chicago: Reilly & Lee, 1925
By Baum, L. Frank; Neill, John R.
Chicago: Reilly & Lee, 1925. Very good plus.. Early printing this classic early Oz title, Baum's reluctant return to Oz becoming a beloved entry in the series. First published in 1913, PATCHWORK GIRL was Baum's capitulation to write book-length Oz stories again after attempting to retire the series with THE EMERALD CITY OF OZ (1910) - much like other authors dogged by one successful franchise, such as Arthur Conan Doyle and his Sherlock Holmes stories. As with the return of Sherlock Holmes, this return of Oz was received with acclaim. 9'' x 6.5''. Original blue pictorial cloth stamped in red and yellow, Woozy on spine embellished in red (Bienvenue printing 1925-29). Color pictorial endpapers. Illustrated by Neill in color and black and white. No ads on verso of half title. 342, [6] pages. Light shelfwear and a couple spots to boards, with spine faintly sunned. Interior clean and bright.
