c.1900 CHINESE EMBROIDERED SILK PANEL

  • Guangzhou, China , c.1870-1900
Guangzhou, China, c.1870-1900. Late Qing Dynasty Chinese export silk embroidery panel depicting an elegant garden scene populated by robed figures within a stylized landscape of flowering branches, birds, and architectural pavilions. Executed in delicate silk threads using satin and outline stitching on a fine silk ground, the scene retains a pleasing palette of soft blues, greens, and earth tones. The panel is framed within a later decorative textile border, consistent with 19th-century export presentation pieces intended for Western interiors. Frame measures ~13.25in. x 24in. Silk panel measures 9.5in. x 21in. Shelved at Dupont. 1410583. Shelved Dupont Bookstore.
