The Quiet American
- London: William Heinemann Ltd, 1955
London: William Heinemann Ltd, 1955. First edition. Fine/Fine. Original publisher's blue cloth gilt in dust jacket. A Fine copy of the book in like dust jacket. Dust jacket just a bit worn at edges, still an excellent copy.
Often seen as Greene's great post-war work, The Quiet American follows Thomas Fowler's relationship with idealistic American CIA agent Alden Pyle, one which intrudes on both professional and personal ground. The work drew on Greene's experience as a war correspondent in French Indo-China for The Times and Le Figaro from 1951 to 1954, and the work is dedicated to two friends he made while there (one of which is named after the leading female character). It has since been adapted into two films, one in 1958 and another in 2002 starring Michael Caine and Brendan Fraser. Fine in Fine dust jacket.
