FREDERIC REMINGTON (1861-1909). One of the most famous Western painters, Remington often used active cowboys, horses and soldiers in his works. ALS. 1pg. No date [circa early 1899]. New Rochelle, New York. An autograph letter signed Frederic Remington to an unnamed correspondent. The artist wrote on stationery headed 301 Webster Avenue, New Rochelle N.Y.: My dear D - The trouble with you is Homer - you are too d- sudden - too casual. You only happen to me occasionally and yet I am doing things all the while. I didnt know you were going to want me to come to smoke Saturday - arranged to go to Cuba for two weeks some time back I go Saturday at 1 o'clock and will be sick at sea when you pass the butter - Isnt that a d - shame Yours Frederic Remington. Remington traveled to Havana from February to March 1899 to cover the Spanish-American War for Colliers Weekly. Remington was disillusioned by the destruction war wrought. The letter is framed with three plaques (one a transcription, one with historical background) and two images to an overall size of 36 x 25.
