A REMARKABLE AND ROMANTIC HISTORY OF LOVE AND TREACHERY. THE MYSTERIOUS CRIME AT THE BURLEIGH MANSION, NORTH READING, MASS. BEING THE WONDERFUL CAREER OF MRS. JANE BURLEIGH, A LADY OF WEALTH AND BEAUTY, A TRUE AND COMPLETE ACCOUNT OF WHICH IS NOW FOR THE FIRST TIME PUBLISHED, ALTHOUGH STRENUOUS EFFORTS WERE MADE TO SUPPRESS IT
- Philadelphia: Published by Barclay & Co., 1887
Another in the pleasingly lurid Barclay "true crime" genre. Its inclusion in Wright's bibliography suggests that the account is fiction. But Francis Tracey, commissioned by Barclay, assures that his report is "true history," now available to the public only because he has "persevered in the face of great obstacles." Thanks to the "liberality" of the Barclay firm, Tracey was able "to thoroughly investigate the matter," a disturbing tale of family strife, lust, jealousy, and death at the Burleigh Mansion in North Reading.
