By Butler, Octavia E.
New York: Warner Books, 1987. First edition. Fine/Fine. Inscribed by the author on the title-page: "To Richard - Best Wishes Octavia E. Butler." A Fine copy in like dust jacket.

Dawn is the first of three books in the Xenogensis series, followed by Adulthood Rites (1988) and Imago (1989), which were collected under the title Lilith's Brood in 2000. The series dwells on themes Butler established in her earlier Patternist books and would revisit again and again throughout her career: heredity and legacy, Black womanhood, and the biological politics of the sci-fi future. Butler had already won both a Hugo and a Nebula Award and would later become the first science fiction writer to be awarded the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellowship (commonly referred to as the MacArthur "genius" grant), which she received in 1995. Fine in Fine dust jacket.
