New York: The Letter Edged in Black Press, 1968. In very-well preserved condition, complete with all parts as issued. Original portfolio, printed wrappers; in the publisher's cardboard mailing box. The sixth, and final, issue of William Copley's famous series of portfolios, each containing artists' multiples. Included in volume six are: Richard Artschwager (cover), Ed Bereal, Diter Rot, Betty Dodson, Ronaldo Ferri, Toby Mussman, Adrian Nutbeam, Claes Oldenburg, Mischa Petrow, Jean Reavey, Paul Steiner, Bernard Venet, and John Giorno.
"The work is a series of folders, available by subscription, containing objects and artworks contributed by artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Ray Johnson and Man Ray. As a publication, its mission was to question the notion of art objects as belonging in museums and galleries by bringing the work to the fingertips of the subscribers. S.M.S. was produced in small runs, and the sets Copley, clearly an archivist at heart, donated to the New Museum of Contemporary Art were destroyed in a flood (Heller, 150)" (Brandeis, see https://www.brandeis.edu/library/archives/essays/special-collections/s-m-s.html).
