By Sears, Clara Endicott
Boston, MA: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1924. First Edition. 264pp. Octavo [22 cm] Blue cloth with silver stamped titles on the front board and backstrip. Better than very good. In this work the author chronicles the intense religious hysteria of the Millerite movement in New England during the years 1843 and 1844. Based on first-hand accounts as well as personal recollections and letters from elderly individuals who had lived through the movement during their youth. Sears uses these accounts to detail the fallout from Miller's movement and how it laid the groundwork for modern Protestant sects, most notably the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
