This is an exceptional album depicting Mexico at the middle of the 20th century. The compiler was a baker from Washington who took great pains to create this exquisite album which begins with a typescript card reading:

"Our Trip to Mexico. We left Tacoma February 22, 1947. We arrived back home Tuesday April 15, 1947, and were gone 53 days. We traveled in our Buick Sedan and drove a total of 10,000 miles of which nearly 4,000 miles were in Mexico. We had no car trouble. We entered Mexico from Laredo Texas March 4th and returned through Laredo, March 29th."

Just under 300 professional-quality photos depict Mexico in at least 19 named locations. Approximately 110 photographs show the local populace and/or their living conditions and another 40 are fabulous street scenes. There's a five shot series of workers at a sugar mill and one shows a cobbler working in a thatched hut. We see homes and schools in Monterrey, roadside shops in Jacala, and child workers walking along a dirt road in Tasquilla. There are images of a grocery store in Toluca, a man walking along the road with several dozen loaves of bread on his head, and a volcano in Paracutin. Other shots include markets in Cholulu, Taxco, and Patzcuaro as well as pottery works in Tlaquepaque. More photos show the ruins at Teotihuacan and Mitla, the floating gardens at Xochimilco, and a Sanborns in Mexico City. There's much, much more to discover.

Around 50 photos taken stateside finish out the album and include spectacular images of Taos, New Mexico.
