This is a monumental collection related to the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors (AGJHS). According to Jewishvirtuallibrary.org:

"Immediately after the World Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors in Israel in June 1981, a new organization was established to prepare for another event, the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors in Washington, DC, in April 1983 . . . The event in the American capital attracted 20,000 survivors and their families, where for three days attendees commemorated the Holocaust, attended cultural events, met with politicians, including the president and vice president of the United States, attended seminars, listened to many speeches from survivors and their children, and lobbied for Israel. At the Capital Center, they were addressed by President Ronald Reagan and learned that an umbrella organization for American Jewish Holocaust survivors had been created in the name of the Gathering. The announcement was made by Benjamin Meed, a Warsaw Ghetto survivor, the driving force behind the gatherings, which started as a dream of Ernest Michel, a German survivor, when he was in Auschwitz. The mission of the organization is remembrance, education, and commemoration."

The clippings come in three large books. The shortest, with ten leaves, contains articles leading up to 1983's Washington, D.C. gathering mentioned above. The longest book, with 58 leaves, covers every aspect of the 1983 gathering, with articles from numerous major newspapers and magazines. It was compiled by Beverly Jackson of Jackson/Summers Associates, a woman-owned public relations firm and presented to the aforementioned Benjamin Meed. The third book, with 30 leaves, involves the less-well-covered Inaugural Assembly of the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors. That event was held in April 1985 at the Philadelphia Civic Center.

Over 2000 photos deal exclusively with 1985's Inaugural Assembly and include shots in and around the Philadelphia Civic Center which hosted the event. There are many images of individual speakers including Elie Wiesel, shots of the "survivors village" and many show a march or marches. Others show attendees at various events and some of them are identified. We see people dancing the Hora, a candle lighting ceremony, a theater production and much more.

A deep collection with numerous research avenues.
