[Collection of Photographs of Heavy Metal and Rock Musicians]

  • [New York and New Jersey] , 2005
[New York and New Jersey], 2005. Very good +. 259 photographs (95 loose, 164 in labeled mylar sleeves) + 1 real photo postcard and 9 loose items of ephemera. Photos range from 3½" x 4¼" to 5" x 7" (most 4" x 6", a few cut smaller), all but ten are color and about half are captioned versos. Generally very good plus: one with a tiny tear and a few adhesive remnants to versos.

This is a rock and roll fan's photo collection showing bands and musicians from the 1970s to the early 2000s.

There are live shots of acts like Heart, Faster Pussycat and Judas Priest from around the later 1970s to early 1980s. Two of Cinderella's reunion tours are also represented, including 2006 shows with Poison celebrating the 20th anniversary of both bands' debut albums. Ten large, fantastic shots show Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, some time in recent years (he doesn't seem to age so it's pretty hard to tell), as well as a real photo postcard and shots of the band at their '70s peak. 67 photos are devoted to the Naked Beggars, a glam band founded in 1998 by Inga Brittingham with her husband, former Cinderella bassist Eric. There are also live shots of E'nouf Z'nuf, J. Giles band and, somewhat inexplicably, country singer Betty Dempsey and an all-Black jazz band at the Syracuse State Fair.

A portion of the photos show fan favorites at record signings/meet-and-greets, including Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister, Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Go's (incorrectly deemed Jane Wilder), drummer Carmine Appice, known for his work with Rod Stewart and Ted Nugent, the 70s glam band Angel and a few identified members of Alice Cooper's band. Many shots have the band or artist's name captioned on the back, and several are stored in (mostly accurately) labeled sleeves. A few entertaining snippets show "Gary Sirone" [Cherone], "2nd singer for Van Halen 1 album which sucked" and Bon Jovi live at "some shithole down the shore sea side." 1970s-era Stones photos have a date stamp of 2005 and a website sticker on the back, and a few from Cinderella's 2002 concert were attributed to Robin Black. While we can't be sure it's her, we did find articles online about a noted photographer and makeup artist with that name; she was said to be active in the New York club scene during that time.

There are also a few great items of musical ephemera, including two promotionals for Pretty Suicide, a female-fronted punk band from New York in the early 2000s, ticket stubs for the Long Island date of Aerosmith and Golden Earring's 1978 tour (and for an Eric Clapton concert from around the same time) and the CD insert for Judas Priest's "Metal Works," released in 1993.

A great collection of hard-hitting musician photos, both live and candid with their fans.
