Illustrated with hundreds of black and white illustrations, some photographs. OCLC locates only seven known copies of the first edition and seven copies of this third edition. An important work; the first book published on hair styling for African American women. The first edition of The Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Manual was published in 1928 by The Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company. Madam C.J. Walker, born Sarah Breedlove, died in 1919, but her company continued to operate until 1981. The Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company, headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, was incorporated in 1910 by its namesake and sold African American cosmetic and hair care products. It was one of the most financially successful minority-owned businesses of the 20th century.
