Fine full light green (to brown) crushed morocco bound by Fanny Dudley (signed in gilt on back dentelle) with concentric gilt fillet ruled borders and top scroll were pattering on both covers; spine with five raised bands and gilt lettering on three panels. Signed, by the bookbinder "F. Dudley" on back dentelle, and "19 EZ 15" presumably the initials of the recipient of the requistioning customer. Wide dentelles with attractive textile pink, violet and gold designed silk floral doublures and endsheets A prominent bookbinder, Dudley was a pupil of Florence Foote (who apprenticed from Evelyn Nordhoff and T.J. Cobden-Sanderson), as well as a member of the National Society of Craftsmen and Guild of Bookworkers. Tissue-guarded color frontispiece by MAXFIELD PARRISH, and 24 additional plates by same, as well color and black-and-white plates and photographs by other artists. Likely bound as a gift for one ìEZî in 1915, as stamped in inside front cover (ì19 EZ 15î). Green morocco with uniform brown coloration with almost no variation to spine and front cover (often the case with this color green, some very slight wear to corners, near fine. Fanny Dudley bindings are quite scarce and competitively sought.
