Offered here is a superb two-part rendering in various colors on paper (framed) by John Illingworth Kay, noted Victorian British designer and illustrator associated with the decorative revival of the 1890. INSCRIBED BY KAY IN PENCIL: "With the designer's Compliments, J. Illingworth Kay, 10 - 12 - 9. The bookplates are for Edgar Pattison (painter, printmaker) and Beatrice Illingworth Kay (a close relation) and are executed with various shades of coloration typical of stenciling or airbrush (for which the artist was know to dabble in). Kay, working in book and periodical design within the Arts and Crafts and early Art Nouveau milieu, contributed graphic work for John Laneís Bodley Head and for literary journals such as The Yellow Book, producing ornamental title pages, initials, and cover designs. As well, Kay contributed some notable illustrated title-pages such as Orchard Songs, Garnett Poems, and Romantic Professions. A couple of crease or cracks along right lower margin. Quite scar.
