With Chistian love, from the Author India. Nov. 15, 1917." Dr. Philo Melvin Buck, who died in 1924 at age 78, was a long-time missionary leader in India under the Board of Foreign Missions of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He died in Meerut, India. He entered the Indian missionary field in 1870, when there were only 200 Christians in the territory. For twenty-nine years, from 1893 to 1922, when he retired, he was superintendent of the Meerut district, which today has more than 35,000 Christians. T.J. Scott was an author and missionary to India in the 19th century, also associated with the United Methodist Church's Board of Foreign Missions. Scott's missionary activities were part of a broader 19th century evangelical movement in India, where Protestant missionaries worked in education, translation, and community outreach. 12mo., decorative light-brown cloth, stamped in black; 248 pages. Frontispiece of the Author. Very Good (covers nice; contents clean & tight with some browning endpapers).
