Matheson's classic lone survivor novel, often seen as one of the first major reimaginings of the vampire genre after decades of gothic Dracula-style creatures. Basis for the 1964 Vincent Price film The Last Man on Earth, the 1971 Charlton Heston film The Omega Man, and the finally of-the-same-named 2007 Will Smith adaptation, and was of course also an influence across the zombie and survival horror genres that followed.
