As he explains on the elaborate title page "For the most part the contents of this little book appeared first in Cranbrook papers, the writer then being hidden under a nom de plume. These thoughts and fancies having given pleasure to some of their readers are now gathered together in this more convenient form for those who like to think a little, dream a little, work a little.
