Toledo, OH; Boston: Kate Corson, Publisher; P.B. Randolph, Publisher [Imported by J.J. Morse]; Randolph and Company, 1874. First edition. Three truly scarce pamphlets on the occult, magic, the afterlife, and relationships by the 19th century African American doctor and Spiritualist medium, Paschal Beverly Randolph. First editions, inexpertly bound together in contemporary brown cloth with the spine lettered in gilt: Ghostly Land. 33, [1], XVII (bibliography), [1]; [ front wrapper of The New Mola, 63, [1]; 45, VIII, [176]-[178] pp. Good, bubbling and dampstaining to cloth; cloth bunched up near foot; contents lightly wrinkled throughout and occasionally soiled, occasional notes and ink underlines by former owner. Stamp of British importer on bound-in front wrap of second pamphlet.

Despite his recent obscurity, Randolph (1825-1875) is credited with starting the earliest known Rosicrucian order in the United States, presaging 21st century concepts of the fluidity of gender, and may have been the first American practitioner of sex magick as well. He was quite an important influence on later esoteric groups such as The Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, The Theosophical Society, and Ordo Templi Orientis.
