The author, František Serafínský Procházka (1861-1939), was a Czech author, poet, translator, and librarian. The illustrator, Viktor Oliva (1861-1928), was a Bohemian born Art-Nouveau illustrator and painter who studied in Prague, Germany, and France. He lived and worked in Paris for many years before relocating to Prague. The publishing house of Nakladatelstvi was the premier publisher in Prague during the "Golden Era" of Czech culture and printing in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The binding in this book is unusual in that the gatherings are both sewn and stapled.
