Wienerisches Diarium. Anno 1724. Bound volume containing 92 of the 105 twice-weekly numbers of this early Austrian newspaper which were published in 1724

  • Hardcover
Hardcover. Very Good. Issues individually paginated. Thick volume (about 8 cm.). Old (contemporary?) leather. 22 cm. Cover spotting, rubbing and wear with front joint splt. Front cover still firmly attached by the cords. Modest scattered foxing. Old Yale University Library bookplate in front pastedown and remnants of an old label on backstrip. Most text double-columned. Missing numbers are 3, 10, 29, 31-35, 38, 48, 62, 70 and 103. We do not know if individual issue are complete because some issues seem to have various additions about the Royal Court or other entities such as at least five issues in this volume which have material in an added section of varying length titled Publication der Privilegirten Orientalische Compagnie. This newspaper was renamed Wiener Zeitung in 1780. The Third Reich closed the newspaper during World War II. The last printed edition was published in 2023 at which time it was regarded as the oldest newspaper still in print in the world.
