1901. [FABRIC DYES]. Les Couleurs d'Aniline de la Badische Anilin-& Soda -Fabrik. ix, 544, xi pp. 2 plates with 3 views of the company's factories, and 20 leaves with 621 (of 624) dyed fabric samples. 8vo, 260 x 180 mm, bound in recent cloth. Ludwigshafen on the Rhine, 1901. A fantastic trade catalogue from the Badische Anilin & Soda Fabrik, a major German chemical company still in operation today. Both technical and beautiful, the catalogue lays out in great detail the compositions of the dyes plus instructions and methods for affixing them to various materials. Sections on wool, cotton, silk and various mixtures are followed by pages containing dozens of labeled dye samples, some simple colorful swatches, others beautiful fanned-out silk or wool threads. A valuable and exhaustive resource on process and product of dying that has wonderfully preserved the century old colors. With a presentation inscription from the company. Apart from very occasional soiling, a fine copy. A rare book with OCLC listing copies only at the Metropolitan Museum, Yale, MFA Boston, Vanderbilt and Amon Carter Museum in the US.
