[Eatonton, GA]: [The Nuwaubian Nation], 2000. An unopened bag of 50 uncommon coins/tokens, plus a selection of 5 and 25 cent denomination coins, all but one of which are in stapled tiny bags. As new. Their motto: "In Facts We Trust."

Tokens produced by the Nuwaubian Nation during its time in rural Georgia, where Dwight York and his followers set up a Black Nationalist compound/theme park in 1993. The complex blend of ideologies and influences of the group included Islam, UFO contactee, New Age, neo-Egyptian, Native American, Black Nationalist, and even sovereign state citizen concepts-- the latter tendency leading to their confrontation with federal authorities, as sovereign citizens believe they are not subject to income tax or most laws. The names for the group and their compounds changed numerous times. A number of hip-hop groups have reputedly been influenced by Nuwaubian ideas over the years. Their compound was raided May 8, 2002, and York eventually imprisoned on charges of racketeering and child molestation.

While quite obscure, the Nuwaubians remain one of the most intriguing and unusual American new religious movements of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
