U.S. edition of a pocket guide to medicine and pharmaceuticals, published by and promoting the pharmaceutical firm Burroughs Wellcome & Co. of London. Organized much like an encyclopedia, the guide includes information about common home remedies including dosage, a guide to recognizing the symptoms of poisoning, and of course lengthy price lists of medical equipment and medicines sold by the company. Includes over thirty pages of color illustrations of products in the rear. Single vol. (6.5" by 3.75"), pp. 376, xxxii, illus., in original red cloth covers. Ink ownership inscription of "S. Ross Simpson" to first leaf verso. Also includes a brief pen inscription to p.[4] that reads, "Emmenagogue Methylene Blue Compound Colomel". An emmenagogue is a drug or herbal compound used to stimulate menstrual flow.
